A dividend is a portion of a company’s profits that is distributed to its shareholders. When you own shares of a company, you are a part-owner of that business. If the company decides to share its profits, it does so by paying dividends.
Dividends are not guaranteed. A company may choose to pay dividends in some years and skip them in others, depending on profitability, cash flow, and future plans.
